The Neverending drama of It Ends With Us, and what it means for Christians affected by Sexual Harassment.

It's yet another day in Hollywood, yet another scandal and yet another white person crying wolf and filing lawsuits.

Sometimes, as an innocent nobody I wonder how these multi billion dollar celebrities have the time to slander each other and file lawsuits. If they would spend less time dragging each other in public, they could always send that lawsuit money to an innocent little Indian Editor-in-chief of the Daily Deck fighting to make ends meet in a busy city…but that’s neither here nor there.

So, if you haven’t heard, Blake Lively is feuding with her ex co-star, the lovable heartthrob Justin Baldoni, aka. Rafael from Jane the Virgin. The gorgeous blonde has made numerous allegations that Baldoni sexually harassed her.

With just one movie, Blake Lively turned from being just another overly-hyped Hollywood blonde to a vilified “mean girl” according to sources. Surprisingly enough though, many have sided with Baldoni, claiming that he’s a “nice guy” and she’s dragging his reputation due to some hushed drama that went on behind-the-scenes which ultimately caused the two to not even promote the film together. It must also be said that Baldoni has gone to great lengths to try and prove his innocence, even releasing unedited footage which makes Lively look completely at ease around him.

Take a look at these text messages shown in an article by New York Times by Baldoni’s PR team, they are so concerned with trying to promote a “narrative” that is pro-Justin when they themselves don’t even agree with some of what the fans are saying.

It brings into question what really went on and makes me as an observer distrustful of both Baldoni and Lively. Hollywood celebrities are forever living in their own world of drama, and not afraid to go to any lengths to make sure their characters are not maligned so that they don’t lose out on making money.

Sadly, a film like It Ends with Us (which, I have to say, is not even that good) which was supposed to bring light to domestic abuse has now become just a footnote for unnecessary drama. People seem to have forgotten the whole point of the movie, instead focusing too much on who’s right and who’s wrong and who’s lawsuit will win. Trivial things, indeed.

As a woman who has also been a victim in the past to unwanted sexual harassment and attention from men, I find it hard to believe that we live in a world where a woman would ever lie about something like this. Sexual harassment is serious and should never be up to the public to take sides. If Lively is telling the truth, I sympathize with her for being vilified for speaking up, but if Baldoni is telling the truth, I sympathize with him for being subjected to such disgusting and untrue accusations.

So how does this drama point to the sovereignty of Jesus? And what’s the point of it all?

The point is that people have forgotten what matters here. The movie was meant to promote strength in standing up to your abusers and fighting back, but instead it became about allegations of another abuser and a long drawn out smear campaign.

In Ephesians 2:10 Paul explains that “We are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago” and if we’re a masterpiece, another flawed human being’s sin and harassment towards us cannot taint the masterpiece God has created.

I rest assured in the fact that I have a God who is just and fights our battles, so if you are someone who is an actual victim and your harasser is still out there not serving justice, know that God will deliver punishment to those who afflict and violate you. Whether it's emotional abuse, physical or sexual, whatever the harassment, large or small, they will have to account for their sins unless they repent. I would trust God to be much scarier in dealing with this, rather than any police, lawyer or white man in his 40s filing a lawsuit..
