In the wake of the recent U.S. election, it's easy to get caught up in the highs and lows, the celebrations and disappointments, depending on one's political leanings. Yet, as Christians, our faith reminds us of a truth far greater than any political victory or defeat: our true government is in Jesus. No matter who sits in the Oval Office, Jesus remains on the throne, the King of Kings, ruling with justice, mercy, and love. His kingdom is our ultimate citizenship.
The Bible shows us that God works through all rulers—whether they honor Him or not. In the Old Testament, God’s hand was present through leaders both righteous and rebellious. He raised David, Israel’s beloved king, but also used foreign rulers like Nebuchadnezzar and Cyrus to accomplish His purposes. Whether we’re pleased or dissatisfied with the election results, we can trust that God’s will is sovereign. As stated in Proverbs 21:1, “The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; he turns it wherever he will.” God has always been, and always will be, the ultimate authority over all nations and leaders.
In a time of division and polarizing views, as Christians, we are called to rise above hostility. Romans 12:10 urges us to “Outdo one another in showing honor.” This doesn’t mean we all have to agree, but it does mean that we treat one another with kindness, respect, and grace, regardless of our political affiliations. We can both rejoice with those who rejoice and mourn with those who mourn - both can coexist when we love and honour one another. This does not make us hypocrites, instead it makes us those who lay ourselves and opinions down to serve and love one another. Our love should be a testament to the world that we serve a higher purpose.
Finally, let’s remember that the hand of God is in every moment, including this election. He raises up leaders “for such a time as this” (Esther 4:14), and nothing that happens in government is outside His knowledge or control. While the world may be shocked or divided, God is never caught off guard. He goes before His people, and His purposes will stand.
So, while we pray for our leaders and participate in the political process, let’s keep our eyes on Jesus, the true King. Let’s put our hope in His unchanging reign and remember that we belong to an eternal kingdom, one that cannot be shaken.

The Unshaken Kingdom
In halls of men, they bicker and divide,
As leaders rise and fall by vote or fate.
Yet we, as children of the King, abide,
In faith, untouched by any Earthly state.
For God alone, the sovereign hand does guide,
Through rulers Just or ice cold hearts of stone.
His plans prevail; His purpose shall not hide,
He moves the earth from His eternal throne.
Though voices rage with hate and prideful might,
Our call is clear, to love, and mercy show.
To honor all, in darkness be the light,
To trust in Him, where earthly powers go.
No crown or seat can shift our King’s domain,
For Christ, our Lord, forever will remain.
